While the abode of clouds – Meghalaya is a backpackers paradise, Assam in it’s green lush terrains is home to one-horned rhinoceros and many such species of wild habitats in Asia. This trip gives you the best of nature, history and wild life. From gushing waterfalls and adventurous caves to jungles and river island. While we indulge in lip smacking food, make friends with locals and make numerous core memories with fun crew and numerous activities in the heart of nature. What more can one ask for right?
Welcome to Guwahati(Arrive by 2 pm). Meet your fellow backpackers as we make our way to Shillong. On the way, we stop for some gorgeous sunset views at Umaim lake. Yep, your first sunset in the North East has to be magical! Later we check into our cute & cosy little homestay in Shillong for some delicious home-cooked local food and a fun introductory session.
Also called the Scotland of the East, Shillong has a charm of its own. Begin your morning with a trip to a Sacred Forest for a glimpse into the customs of the tribals and have a picnic breakfast there. Later, we head to the Elephant falls and gorge on some steaming hot momos and maggi. Bliss! In the afternoon learn about the culture and history of the 7 sisters at the Don Bosco Museum. In the evening, we head out to explore the markets and nightlife of Shillong as we grove to some local music with the squad.
Start your day off with a short trek to some hidden waterfalls - shh! it's a secret. Later visit the fascinating Mawsmai caves for an Indiana Jones vibe - with dim lights, fossil marks & narrow paths. After a quick lunch, we head to the tallest waterfall - the Noh Kalikai falls for some insta-worthy shots and Wei Sawdong falls. At night, we check in at our stay in Cherrpunjee to chill and have some dinner.
Deep in the dense tropical forest of
Meghalaya lies the living root bridge - a fascinating invention of the tribals. Trek through the forest & villages to get to this bridge. We also go further & visit the hidden blue lagoon & rainbow falls. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the crystal waters after a long tedious trek & gorge on hot maggi and nimbu pani for some energy.
After a leisure breakfast, we make our way to the cleanest village in Asia - Mawlynnong. The village is very pretty with small streams & orchid trees. Their matriarchal culture and the age-old tradition of cleanliness are fascinating. Later, we hop on our boats & cruise along the clearest water of Dawki river. It is so clear you can see the river bed! Take it up a notch and cliff-jump into the river. Plus be in 2 places at the Indo - Bangla border as well. Return to Shillong at night for some dinner and rest.
Say goodbye to Meghalaya and welcome the green plains of Assam as we drive to Kaziranga. A UNESCO World Heritage site. After a quick Assamese lunch, we hop on our jeeps and begin our journey through the jungles to spot the famous one-horned rhino. If you are lucky you may see some tigers as well. In the evening we check in at our beautiful luxurious jungle resort for some bonfire, music, food and drinks with the squad!
After a leisure breakfast, we board our ferry on the mighty Brahmaputra & make our way to the largest river island - Majuli. Freshen up at our traditional bamboo huts & learn the art of mask making at the satras as you learn the way of life of the Mishing tribe. In the evening, we head out for a traditional tribal dinner & rice beer with the locals.
Today morning, ride some bicycles, relive your childhood as you explore the quaint village island of Majuli. Later, put on your chef hats as we cook a meal together for lunch with our mates on our last day of the trip. Trust us, it's an experience in itself.
In the afternoon, board your ferry and return to mainland Assam. In the evening we spend our last night with our buddies at a super cool cafe in Jorhat, playing Jenga and eating food as we wait for our overnight bus to Guwahati.
Arrive at the Guwahati bus stand in the morning(by 7 am). With a heavy heart bid adios to your fellow travelers and promise to meet each other on another adventurous trip!
